MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Late Series," assayer S to left, mintmark oM to right (S-oM), very rare, NGC VF details / sea salvaged / Padre [Island] (Shipwreck Blue Label), ex-Sedwick-Downing (stated on label). Nesmith-unl; S-M8; Cal-unl; KM-18. 11.72 grams. Rarest assayer of the "Late Series" coins. Full design (the details more like AU in our opinion) on a broad, round flan enhanced by dark (typically rusty) toning over surface porosity, very bold assayer, one of only a handful of S-oM coins known to exist, a type that was unknown to Nesmith. From the Spanish 1554 Fleet at Padre Island, Texas, and pedigreed to the Sedwick-Downing Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage.
