MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer R (Rincón) at bottom between pillars, oval panel with PLVSVT, NGC XF details / sea salvaged / Golden Fleece (Shipwreck Blue Label), ex-Sedwick-Downing (stated on label). Nesmith 6 for type/6c; S-M1; Cal-115; KM-16. 13.12 grams. Full round flan with interiors and legends fully visible, no corrosion, steel gray toning all over but darker around details, one of only three known with only four dots in shield-side crown and among the earliest types. The doubling of the assayer-mark at the bottom between the pillars is R/R. From the "Golden Fleece” wreck (ca. 1550), with certificate, and pedigreed to the Sedwick-Downing Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage.
