MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer P to right, mintmark M to left (oMo-oPo), motto as PLVS in left-leaning rhomboid panel with one annulet in each side, rare, NGC AU details / environmental damage. Nesmith-26 type; S-M4; Cal-123; KM-17. 13.27 grams. Well struck on a broad flan (shield side slightly off-center), full of eye-catching iridescent toning over clean surfaces despite some faint pitting, fully readable legends and interiors, somewhat soft M mintmark, an issue from the later HISPANIARVM variety. Despite the grade, this is a fine example from this assayer. Featured on front cover of printed catalog.
