MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer P to right, mintmark M to left (oMo-oPo), motto as PLVS in left-leaning rhomboid panel with one annulet in each side, very rare, NGC XF 45. Nesmith-26 for type; Cal-123; S-M4; KM-17. Early emission from this assayer with REX and HISPANIE in the legend and cross potents with annulets in each corner used as stops between words in the legends, rare misspelling of IOANA (only four known with this error), struck on a broad flan with full and clear legends and interior details, lovely gunmetal toning throughout. Note a similarly graded coin sold in Sedwick Auction 38 for $20,000 plus buyer's premium.
