MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer P to left, mintmark M to right (oPo-oMo, plain annulets), motto as PLVS in right-leaning panel with two annulets in each side, HISPANIARVM variety, rare, NGC XF details / cleaned / Golden Fleece (Shipwreck Brown Label), ex-Sedwick-Downing (stated on label). Nesmith-21; S-M4; Cal-77; KM-17. 13.34 grams. Full details except for a couple flat areas and only traces of corrosion near part of edge yet nicely toned all over. Note that examples of P-M are much rarer than M-P. From the "Golden Fleece" wreck (ca. 1550) and pedigreed to the Sedwick-Downing Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage.
