MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer P over Latin R (Rincón) at bottom between pillars, oval panel with (:)PLVSV(:), rare, NGC XF details / sea salvaged / Golden Fleece (Shipwreck Brown Label), ex-Sedwick-Downing (stated on label). Nesmith-6bc/6c type (under assayer R); S-M4; Cal-117; KM-17. 12.83 grams. Broad flan with legends and interiors complete, some corrosion on shield side, low-contrast toning all over. Both the shield and the pillars sides are die-matches with assayer-R dies. From the “Golden Fleece” wreck (ca. 1550), pedigreed to the Sedwick-Downing Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage.
