MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer Latin R over Gothic R (Rincón) at bottom between pillars, oval panel with PLVSVT, NGC AU 50, ex-Sedwick-Downing (stated on label). Nesmith 6c/6c for type; S-M1; Cal-115; KM-16. Exceptionally broad flan extending past the outer border in places, with bold full interiors and legends, slightly doubled shield, lovely rich toning. This shield die was also used by the next assayer (P). The doubling of the assayer-mark at the bottom between the pillars is R/R. Pedigreed to the Sedwick-Downing Collection of Mexican Charles-Joanna Coinage.
