MEXICO, Mexico City, 4 reales, Charles-Joanna, "Early Series," assayer G at bottom between pillars, mintmark oMo-oMo (plain annulets), motto as PLVS in left-leaning rhomboid panel with one annulet in each side, NGC UNC details / environmental damage, ex-Pat Johnson, ex-Ortiz. Nesmith-11 for type; Cal-119; S-M2; KM-17. 13.54 grams. With lots of luster and struck on a broad flan, full legends and choice interiors, half of shield side and part of rim of pillars side dark from oxidation, hence the grade. Important pedigree as the first lot in the Swiss Bank Corp. auction of 1991 of the Emilio Ortiz Collection and later in the Pat Johnson Collection. Also noteworthy is that the pillars side is a die match with coins of assayers P and F. Pedigreed to the Pat Johnson Collection (stated on label) and to the Emilio Ortiz Collection (Swiss Bank Corp. auction of September 1991, lot 1).
