Lot of one glass deck prism (deadlight) and thirteen iron spikes (conserved). Prism: 917 grams, 5-1/2" long; nails: 922 grams, 2-1/2" to 8" long. Assortment of necessary shipboard items. In order to spread light to lower decks, wooden sailing ships had glass prisms like this one embedded in the main deck. This prism not complete, but interesting because of encrustation, mostly on one side. Nails were needed in abundance, and this conserved collection of thirteen comes in all shapes and sizes. From an unidentified 1800s wreck in the Florida Keys.
