Lot of four brass sword-hilt fragments from a swept-hilt rapier, from the Leimuiden (1770). 209 grams total, 2" to 5-1/2" in length. These blackened-brass intact sword-hilt pieces are remnants from the East Indiaman frigate Leimuiden which wrecked off Boa Vista, Cape Verde Islands in 1770. While most of the crew survived, the ship and cargo did not. From the Leimuiden (1770), and pedigreed to the Christie's (Amsterdam) auction of September 2000 (lot #51), with certificate from the original purchaser.
