Lot of 6 antiquarian books on religion dated 1601, 1636, 1658, 1747, 1777 and 1787. This lot consists of the following: (1) Contemplacion del Crucifixo, y Consideraciones de Christo Crucificado…, 4-3/4" x 7-1/4", 178 pages, vellum-bound and printed by Ioan Moreto (aka Jan Moretus) under Plantiniana Press in Anvers (present-day Antwerp) in 1601; (2) Ammaestramenti Spirituali cavti dalle lettere che scriveva il Beato Andrea Avellino..., 2-1/2" x 4", 269 pages, vellum-bound and printed in Naples in 1636; (3) El Pastor de Noche Buena..., by Don Juan de Palafox y Mendoza, 4" x 5-3/4", 214 pages, vellum-bound and printed in Barcelona by Pablo Campins in 1658; (4) Vida Inimitable, en Carrera Incomprehensible, de Santa Juana de Valois..., by D. Maria Joseph Marin in metric verse to “capture the spiritual consonance of her loyal devotion” and dedicated to King Charles of Borbon, 5-3/4" x 8", 347 pages, vellum-bound and printed by Angelo Felicella in Palermo in 1747; (5) Decreto de Ereccion, Constituciones, Dotacion, Govierno, y Ensenanza del Seminario Conciliar Real de la Purisima Concepcion de Maria Santisima..., 7" x 9-1/2", 116 pages, vellum-bound and printed in Valencia by the Benito Monfort Press in 1777; and (6) Reglas Primitiva y Constituciones de las Religiosas Descalzas de la Orden del la Gloriosisima Virgen Maria del Monte Carmelo, 4" x 6", 202 pages, vellum-bound and printed in Madrid by Joseph Doblado in 1787. Generally good condition, mostly devotionals but the 1777 piece a decree establishing a seminary in the city of Teruel, Spain, and the 1787 work a primer for nuns that curiously has a table in the back with some funny references, e.g., under the heading of “chocolate” is “no se puede tomar sin licencia” (you can’t eat it without a license) and under the heading of “espejo” (mirror) is “no se use del el” (you can’t use one)!
