Lima, Peru, cob 8 reales, 1694M. S-L11; KM-24; CT-238. 21.0 grams. Full but doubled pillars with bold date "994," bold second date below most of cross, thin from corrosion and silvery, from a possible pirate wreck off Mar Bravo, hidden by locals who avoided confiscation by melting the silver coins into spoons and the gold coins into teeth. From the Unidentified ca.-1700 wreck off Punta Santa Elena, Ecuador, pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir collection of Lima silver cobs.
