Lima, Peru, cob 8 reales, 1694M, ex-Mastalir. S-L11; KM-24; CT-238. 21.06 grams. Full but doubled pillars with bold date "994," bold second date below most of cross, thin from corrosion and silvery. This obscure wreck off Mar Bravo beach was kept secret by locals, who avoided confiscation by melting the silver coins into spoons and the gold coins into teeth. Pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir collection, and to our Auction #8, with original lot-tag #796, and with Sedwick photo-certificate. Recovered from: Aguila Volante, sunk in 1701 off Punta Santa Elena, Ecuador
