Lima, Peru, cob 8 escudos, 1699R, from the 1715 Fleet, scarce. S-L26; KM-26.2; CT-10. 26.7 grams. Crisply detailed UNC with superb full cross-lions-castles, full pillars-and-waves (tiny bit of doubling), nearly full legends, almost perfectly round flan but with two tiny edge-splits, lovely luster all over. This is one of only 6 dates (1696-1701) struck under Charles II, whose name on these coins appears simply as "C.II.," which are naturally highly sought for the type. From the 1715 Fleet.
