Lima, Peru, cob 1/4 real, Philip II, assayer I to left of castle, rare. S-unl; KM-unl; Cal-unl. 0.78 gram. Recent research by Jorge Proctor ("La inesperada existencia de una aparente marca de ensayador I en ciertas monedas de Lima y la acunacion de 1592" in Boletin Numismatico 112 [2022]) has shown that what we once thought was a mis-struck mintmark P is actually assayer I (boldly visible on this coin) for assayer Jacome Bricanino of 1592 only (this being the only denomination struck), the castle and lion both full and clearly without any other punches to left or right, some legend, toned and oxidized VF.
