Large silver ingot 161 from Oruro, 78 lb 3.52 oz troy, Class Factor 0.8, with markings of manifest CLIIII (154), fineness IIUCCCLXXX (2380/2400), owner/shipper, silvermaster, and tax stamps, ex-Atocha (1622). 15½" x 5½" x 3". Interesting shape for one of these ingots, as the top is somewhat oval and the sides slope to a crude and narrowish bottom, the top with very bold marking of manifest number near one corner, owner/shipper monogram (ME) near side in center, and slightly weaker fineness near other side, silvermaster V (de Vreder) marked in another corner inside a diagonal slash (seen on several of the bars found and believed to indicate the amount to be extracted as an "avería" tax upon arrival) at one end that shows a shallow cylindrical assayer's "bite" (oddly hammered flat there in its time), plus a few faint circular tax-stamps, lightly corroded overall. From the Atocha (1622), with Fisher photo-certificate S161.
