Large, ornate, rectangular silver tray from Potosí, Bolivia, stamped by silversmith J. Guzman (late 1800s), double-headed eagle and heart design. 1204 grams. 17½" x 11½" x 1½". Impressive piece (XRF tested at 94.2% silver) with deeply embossed design on 2¾" rim, including cherubs, fruits and flowers, and with engraved interior showing double-headed eagle with central heart, small circular crown stamp and PLATERO / J. / GUZMAN in top-left corner, all lightly toned and very solid, just the kind of heavy silver object that usually got melted down in past decades, therefore somewhat rare today. Pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 20, with original lot-tag 1692 and Sedwick photo-certificate.
