Large lignum vitae deadeye. 4350 grams; 8" in diameter and 5-1/2" thick. Of the various parts of the rigging of a wooden sailing ship, perhaps the most recognizable is the deadeye, with three worn holes in middle perpendicular to grooves around the perimeter, the present specimen intact and heavy, with small plaque on polished side that says DEADEYE FROM / SPANISH GALLEON / "SAN FERNANDO" / SUNK OFF FLORIDA / KEYS IN 1733.
