JAPAN, lot of three gold 2 bu "samurai coins," Meiji era (Mutsuhito, 1860s). JNDA 09-29; KM-C21d. 9.05 grams total. each approx. 20x12 mm. Lightly toned AXF, rectangular “samurai coins” struck in electrum (gold-silver mix), with kiri crests and denomination on obverse and Mitsutsugu signature on reverse, popular final issue of Japan’s traditional rectangular gold coinage, produced during the transition from the Tokugawa monetary system to the modern Meiji currency.
