JAPAN, lot of three gold 2 bu (ni bu kin) "samurai coins," Tokugawa Shogunate, Ansei era (1854-60). JNDA 09-27; KM-C21b; Fr-20. 16.72 grams total. each 22 x 13 mm. Three lightly toned XF examples with kiri crests and denomination on obverse, Mitsutsugu signature on reverse, the much scarcer predecessor to the lightweight Man’en 2 bu and considerably more substantial than the later lightweight issues that continued into the early Meiji era. Attractive group from the important period of Japan’s opening to foreign trade and monetary reform.
