JAMAICA, pair of cast brass oval Jamaica Militia shoulder belt plates, 1803. 126.56 grams total. both are 3" x 2¼". Regimental insignia of the Jamaica Militia featuring JAMAICA above a crocodile and date 1803 below (all incuse), hook and two studs on back. These plates would have been worn on the shoulder belt as part of the uniform of the Jamaica Militia, which was in raised in 1803 as part of the British colonial defenses. Both quite nicely detailed, light sedimentation in the recessed areas of the incuse design, one with pinch marks on either side of the crocodile.
