J. Bourne & Son stoneware master ink bottle, ex-SS Republic (1865). 774 grams; 9" tall, 3-1/2" diameter. A large, salt-glazed stoneware bottle (the clay used to make it fired at a high enough temperature to make it non-absorbent) for storing ink for importation to the U.S., this one embossed with Vitreous Stone Bottle, J. Bourne and Son, Denby and Codnor Park Potteries near Derby, C. & J. Arnold London. From the S.S. Republic (1865), with original salvor's certificate and tag.
