Iron "armada" chest with key, no cover plate, early 1600s. About 75 lb, 29" x 14" x 14". A typical German-made strongbox for a castle or manor-house, with false lock in front and functional lock (with original key) on top operating three bolts simultaneously under the lid, designed without a cover plate but with elegant silver leaves here and there, C-shaped handles of twisted iron on either side of the exterior, straps and loops in front for additional locks, small side box inside (open, with lock, but key missing) inside for the most valuable (or most fragile) items, original condition (dark and patinated).
