Intact porcelain bowl with logo of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company on rim, maker's logo G.L. Ashworth & Bros / Hanley on bottom, ex-Douro (1882). 670 grams. 10" diameter x 1½" tall. Fully intact, with detailed company logo on 1-3/8" raised rim and hallmark of maker G.L. Ashworth & Bros. / Hanley on bottom, glossy white with orange staining, one of very few recovered due to the expense of deep-sea excavation. From the Douro (1882), with Sedwick certificate from 1997, pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 8, with original lot-tag 2543, and to Spink's (London) The Douro Cargo auction catalog of November 1996, in which this bowl was part of lot 434.
