Intact French clay pipe, 1680-90, with rooster emblem on spur and design on stem, found at the site of a tavern on Long Island, NY. 24.6 grams, 8" long. Complete piece with long stem and full "peanut" bowl (just a tiny old chip in rim), the stem with beaded-pattern rings and the spur with stamped rooster, believed to be from French-Indian trade in the area in which it was found.
