INDIA, Agra mint, silver restrike of a zodiac mohur, Mughal Emperor Jahangir, AH 1032, regnal year 17 (struck ca. 1900s), Capricorn type. Cf KM-180.19 for original type. 11.15 grams. Based on the famous gold zodiac mohurs of Jahangir. Struck in silver in the late nineteenth to early twentieth century for the collector market, long after Jahangir’s reign. These pieces are non-circulating restrikes of the celebrated gold zodiac mohurs of AH 1028–1037, which survive in extremely limited numbers. Collected today as early restrikes and clearly distinct from the original Mughal issues. Richly toned AU with light rub on the high points of the design.
