HONDURAS, Comayagua, 8 reales, small royal crown countermark (1824) on a Potosí, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, 1766 (V-Y), very rare. KM-unl. 26.06 grams. Typically chunky cob in toned Fine grade, with well-centered full pillars and cross, full XF countermark deeply punched on the date. Decrees from 1824 mention that proper countermarks for Comayagua were ordered from Guatemala but did not arrive, so they had to use old Spanish colonial "royal fifth" punches instead, more often seen on "imitation cob" 2 reales of Tegucigalpa. This is the third we have seen on a Potosí cob 8 reales of this period.
