Guatemala (struck in Mexico City), silver 8 reales-sized proclamation medal, Ferdinand VII, 1809, Los Indios, NGC MS 60, rare. Herrera-21; Medina-303; Grove-F66a; JP-MedC7a. 41mm Obverse with laureate bust of king over a pedestal with friar kneeling at left under legend VIVA . FERNANDO . VII . REY . DE . ESP . E . IND . with ANO DE 1809 . in exergue; reverse with A LA FIEL / GENEROSIDAD / DE LOS INDIOS / DEL REYNO DE / GUATEMA *. The statement of "Los Indios" on this medal refers to its striking for the Guatemalan Indian chiefs who were loyal to the Spanish crown, ironically using their own silver in the process. Slightly crude edge (as made), otherwise just what you should expect from MS 60: no wear, no hairlines, but very little flashiness. Please use this link to verify the certification number
