Guatemala, gold bust 1 escudo, Charles IV, 1801/797 M, very rare, NGC MS 62, finest known in NGC census, ex-Rudman. JP-1E37; KM-55; Cal-1080; Fr-21. As mentioned above, any Guatemalan colonial gold coin is a great find, and for this type (Charles IV standard-bust 1 escudo) only three dates are known to exist, 1794, 1797 and 1801/797, the last with a confirmed population of no more than five to seven examples. Another NGC-finest and in extremely choice quality with very bold details, satin-smooth fields, and strong luster, just parts of the rims off the flan due to inexact centering, no trace of overdate (and not labeled as an overdate) but known to have been struck from 1797 dies. Pedigreed to the Isaac Rudman Coin Cabinet (stated on label) (with his original tag). Please use this link to verify the certification number
