Guatemala, crown countermark (1663) on a Potosí, Bolivia, cob 2 reales, Philip III, assayer T. KM-B1.3, CT-Type 175. 5.3 grams. In response to the debasement scandal in Potosí, it was necessary to countermark the old shield-type 2 reales that were circulating in Guatemala, and now these countermarks are highly sought by Central American collectors. Bold and nearly full countermark on well-worn and underweight host (VG, possibly clipped and then further circulated).
