Guatemala, cob 8 reales, 1740/30J, very rare, with sun-over-mountains countermark (Type II, 1839) on shield side. S-G1; Cal-1244; KM-6; JP-8R8b. 26.47 grams. Square flan with hole in one corner next to the very bold full countermark (XF) below full assayer, good full shield and crown, well-defined globes and waves above full date with bold 0/0 (which some scholars call 0/9) but penultimate digit weak due to the countermark on the other side (but with clear top-right point of underdigit 3), lightly toned AVF. Pedigreed to the Antigua collection and to the Cayon auction of February 2012 (lot 673).
