Great Britain, silver-plated copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon and ship and cannon / Porto Bello, ex-Adams (plate). AC-PBvi23MM. 11.97 grams; 38 mm. Very bright UNC (the AC photo deceivingly dark) with discoloration at top where mount was removed, very sharply detailed from choice strike on a typically cast planchet that shows some light chasing and granularity in fields. XRF: 5.07% silver, 39.53% copper, 48.87% zinc, 5.34% lead. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), plated on page 110 of Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (2010), by Adams and Chao, acquired from Spink & Son, Ltd (King St, London, with their original tags).
