Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, (1741), Vernon (Cartagena design) / MUNDAY, unique, ex-Adams. AC-UNI15. 10.37 grams; 39 mm. Dark AVF with alternating areas of copper and brass color, some surface corrosion and edge-chips, interesting in that the AC plate piece (the only other one known) shows "Saturday" engraved in script on reverse while this one shows "MUNDAY" in block letters, an indicator that these pieces were date markers for "some sort of admission [or] patriotic celebration," according to Adams-Chao, the obverse of both being a crude cast of the same design as AC-CAv1 (or 2). XRF: 62.24% copper, 17.66% zinc, 15.44% lead, 2.62% tungsten. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag).
