Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon and ship and cannon / Porto Bello, ex-Adams (plate), ex-Phillips. AC-PBvi18CC. 15.27 grams; 37 mm. XF+ in dark olive color with a couple tiny bits of lustrous brass, flat high points as struck. Oddly, Adams' tag pegs this medal as dies 17-Z, despite the fact that he used it as the plate piece for 18-CC. XRF: 42.54% copper, 50.80% zinc, 5.14% lead. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), plated on page 104 of Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (2010), by Adams and Chao, and to the M.B. Phillips Collection (Herbert I. Melnick auction of February 1983, lot 1209).
