Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon and Fort Chagre / Porto Bello, ex-Adams (plate). AC-FCv11O. 11.58 grams; 38 mm. Sharply detailed (including the dentillated rims) and not as dark as some, AU with only faint traces of luster, scarce variety of which Adams-Chao reports only five examples. XRF: 41.51% copper, 48.46% zinc, 7.47% lead. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), plated on page 151 of Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (2010), by Adams and Chao, acquired from James King in November 1986.
