Great Britain, copper alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Vernon / Porto Bello, rare, ex-Adams (plate), ex-Peck. AC-PBv31DD. 17.33 grams; 38 mm. AU with patches of dull brass color within the usual olive-brown, the obverse showing a portrait of Vernon with "blow-dried hair and a banana nose" (Adams-Chao, who reported seeing only two examples of this variety). XRF: 40.46% copper, 51.50% zinc, 5.67% lead. Pedigreed to the John Adams Collection (with his handwritten tag), plated on page 70 of Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (2010), by Adams and Chao, and to the Spencer Peck Collection.
