Germany, bronze medal for the sinking of the Lusitania on "5 Mai 1915" (error date), with designer's name K. GOETZ on edge, rare. 72.53 grams. The rare first issue of this famous medal whose propaganda-laden release resulted in many different copies from the British and others to show how cruel the Germans were about the incident, the overall design being a depiction of the ship sinking on one side under a legend that translates as "No Contraband Goods!" and with Death (a skeleton) selling tickets to passengers at the Cunard box office on the other side with "Business Above All" at top. The error date of May 5 instead of May 7 was due to a flawed newspaper account, according to the designer. AU with light wear on the high points, matte brown surfaces.
