German woodcut engraving, early 1600s, showing a galleon and natives in canoes off an island ("I. Ladrones") in the West Indies, from a 1655 book entitled Neue Welt und Americanische Historien, by Johann Ludwig Gottfriedt (Frankfurt am Main). 8" x 13" (whole page). Scene of a galleon under attack by natives, with German text all around and on the back, in excellent condition except for a small hole at top, rare.

NOTE: This and the following Gottfriedt prints were originally done by the famous engraver Theodor de Bry, whose works Gottfriedt inherited in the early 1600s. De Bry himself was copying what was drawn for him by the actual adventurers who saw the New World in the 1500s.
