GUATEMALA, Guatemala City, gold bust 2 escudos, Ferdinand VII, 1817 M, rare, NGC MS 63, finest known in NGC census, ex-Clapp, ex-Eliasberg. JP-2E40; Cal-1592; KM-70; Fr-24. Intensely lustrous and extremely well struck with full details and rims (reverse slightly off-center), also richly toned, a very beautiful coin and clearly the best for this rare date at the end of the rare Guatemala bust gold series, the sole finest known of just ten examples in the NGC census. Pedigreed to the John H. Clapp Collection and to the Louis E. Eliasberg Collection (American Numismatic Rarities auction of April 2005, lot 3029).
