GUATEMALA, Guatemala City, cob 8 reales, 1733 J, very rare, NGC XF details / saltwater damage / Hollandia (Shipwreck Blue Label). S-G1; Cal-1237; KM-6; JP-8R1b. 26.72 grams. Big, rectangular flan with bold full pillars-and-globes and shield despite off-center strike, clear 33 of date and bold full denomination *8*, traces of dark oxidation but practically corrosion-free. The Guatemala cob 8 reales of 1733 is officially the first "dollar" of Central America, struck just one year after the comparatively common but highly lauded 1732 first-date pillar dollar of Mexico and using the same basic design but without the benefit of proper milling equipment. From the Hollandia (1743), pedigreed to the Darby Collection of Guatemala Silver Cobs (stated on label).
