GUADELOUPE, 9 livres (9 shillings), crenelated square hole in center and crowned-G countermarks (1811) on a Mexico City, Mexico, bust 8 reales, Charles III, 1788 FM, NGC VG 10, c/s VF standard, ex-Busto. Prid-2; Gad-30; KM-24. Host coin with full date and fairly well-defined portrait for the grade, with both crowned-G countermarks bold and clear outside the well-defined crenelated central punch-hole, deep silver-gray tone with honest wear. Authorized by decree of May 9, 1811, during a severe monetary shortage in Guadeloupe, when circulating Spanish dollars were revalued to 9 livres for local use. A scarce and highly collectible Caribbean cut-and-countermarked issue, seldom seen this complete. Pedigreed to the José O. Busto Collection.
