GREAT BRITAIN, London, sixpence, William IV, 1834. Sp-3836; KM-712. 2.60 grams. Rare wreck provenance (first we have offered at auction) as from the steamship S.S. Thames which sank in heavy seas after running aground on Jacky's Rock off the Isles of Scilly. Of 65 passengers and crew, only four survived. One survivor, a seaman, drifted onto a rocky outcropping. Upon finding a porter cask from the wreck, he took a drink and then emptied it to use as a shelter. VF with grayish, lightly corroded surfaces and some scratches. With original photo-certificate TH/T/104 from the salvors, plus a color postcard of the salvors on the wrecksite. Recovered from: S.S. Thames, sunk in 1841 off the Isles of Scilly, southwest of England
