GERMAN STATES, Hesse-Cassel, 1/96 taler, Wilhelm V, 1630, NGC MS 61, finest and only example in NGC census. KM-unl. Diminutive coin with neat design featuring a willow tree in a storm (complete with clouds, wind, and thunderbolts, but also with shining sun) inside legend DEO VOLENTE HUMILIS LEVABOR, meaning "With God's will, the humble will be raised," in an attempt to lift spirits during the Thirty Years' War, nicely toned and boldly struck with tall rims, just a little doubled in the legend. Pedigreed to the Stack's Bowers auction of January 2022 (lot 7034).
