France, silvered-bronze medal, 1920, World War I tank award to Corporal Henri Kimmel, by Pierre-Alexandre Morlon. 142.84 grams; 68mm. Obverse with early tank driving through World War I battlefield, female warrior above, signed A. MORLON near edge; reverse with wide floral design with frame in center, CONCOURS DES MECANICIENS / 1ER B.T.N. / DE / CHARS LOURDS / PRIX / DU COLONEL / CDT. LA BRIGADE / KIMMEL HENRI / CL.1920 / CAPORAL at center; plain edge with incuse cornucopia and BRONZE. A striking Art Nouveau design commemorating the Allied tank forces that fought on the battlefields of France. Rare with contemporary engraving awarding this Colonel's prize to Corporal Henri Kimmel for success in a tank mechanics competition held in 1920. Mint State with well-executed silvering, first example we have seen accompanied by its original box of issue.
