European trooper's helmet with lobster tail patterns, 1600s. 136 grams, 15" long, 12" high. Southern European lobster-tail helmet comprised of three plates secured by rivets: two-part main body forged and riveted together, front visor with cut and pierced decorations and molded front edge with center bar to protect the nose and face, and articulating cheek plates secured by rivets to old leather lining (possibly original), one of the leathers now re-attached. Overall good condition showing hand-hammered surface of dark-aged patina, numerous signs of battle use and later repairs and several rivets missing, small loss to comb on rear neck guard. With photo-certificate and wooden display stand.
