English pewter plate, from the HMS Stirling Castle (1703). 390 grams, 8-3/4" diameter. The Great Storm of November 1703 in southwest England wrecked over 50 ships--many on the Goodwin Sands, including the Royal Navy channel fleet which included the HMS Stirling Castle. This encrusted and heavily patinated pewter plate shows saltwater effects and losses to the edges but is in stable condition and makes for a very displayable artifact. From HMS Stirling Castle (1703), with photo-certificate.
