Elegant rectangular-link gold chain, 23.86 grams total, fineness 20K, ex-Maravillas (1656), ex-Weller, ex-Barfield. 22" long. Not your typical "money chain" (a 17th century form of tax evasion), this is a dainty chain of unique design, consisting of 146 flat, thin, rectangular links of rich-colored, high-karat gold (XRF tested at 20K), once part of a 66"-long chain found on the wreck in 1979-80 and divided into three necklaces of 22" each, with two links at each end joined to make a sort of clasp (no modern material), not overly secure but functional, thereby making a wearable artifact from one of the richest treasure wrecks to be salvaged in our time. From the Maravillas (1656), with photo-certificate from Bob "Frogfoot" Weller, pedigreed to the Barfield Collection.
