Early 19th-century American bronze swivel-mount cannon with iron tiller. 23" long, 5" diameter at breech, 4" muzzle, 1-2" bore, approx. 63 lb. Plain cast-bronze well-patinated cannon of classic, ring-turned design in a compact size with rounded cascabel, hand-forged iron swivel mount with pintle, detachable 16" forged-iron pointing tiller with ball end, all mounted on a 13" x 8" x 6" plain block of oak for display. This type of cannon was used as a rail gun on early sailing ships, possibly in the Oyster Wars between Maryland and Virginia. From a Kilmarnock, Virginia estate. (Special shipping required.)
