Cuzco, Peru, gold cob 2 escudos, 1698 M, 'transitional cut," NGC MS 64 / 1715 Fleet ("top pop"). S-CZ1; KM-28; Cal-855. 6.68 grams. Interesting out-of-round shape (as made) with bold full pillars-and-waves and cross-lions-castles, some bold legend, somewhat rare as an "in between" transitional size (neither the broad-flan "Lima cut" nor the small and thick "Bogota cut"), faintly red-toned over luster, tied with previous and subsequent lots for finest at NGC (which does not distinguish the different cuts nor the legend errors). From the 1715 Fleet. Additional pedigree information from The 1715 Fleet Society by Charlie Winn: "Glendining’s auction, November 18, 1971, Lot 643"
