Costa Rica, 2 reales, female head / ceiba tree counterstamp (Type III, 1845) on a Madrid, Spain, bust 4 reales de vellon, Ferdinand VII, 1822 SR. KM-43. 5.71 grams. AVF counterstamp (nearly full) on an About Fine host with clear date, mintmark, assayer and denomination, lightly toned, with small hole at top.

Note: According to researcher Josué Sánchez Chaves, the period between 1821-23 is characterized by a scarcity of hosts for counterstamping, as foreign coins were barely circulating with Spanish legends, making them very rare. Only a handful of pieces are known to exist.
